The left (south) bank downstream from Stafford Bridge to the spinney at the end of the second field.
Approximately 1,500 metres of a non-navigable part of the river that runs north-westerly from Stafford Bridge and then south-westerly. The water is fast or medium paced with shallows at the top end and alongside the first and third islands and slow otherwise. During summer weed can be a problem downstream of the first island. The opposite bank, most of which is also fished - albeit lightly, has fields and woods.
Main species are barbel (to mid teens), bream, chub (to 6+ lbs), dace, perch, pike (to upper teens), and roach with some tench.
Parking is on the verge on the opposite side to the pumping station - do not obstruct the pavement side by parking on it.
The banks alongside most of this stretch are steep so care is needed when going down to the waters' edge. The fields adjacent are arable and the strip between the fields and the water can be overgrown. There is no public right of way on the club's bank.
Directions
Take the Oakley to Pavenham road. As you leave Oakley the road drops down to Stafford Bridge. Access to the water is to the right of the large gates (leading to the water pumping building) some 50 metres before the bridge on the left hand side. Go through the gate to the pumping station and into the field and follow the path to the right. The river is some 50 metres in front. Fishing extends from the bridge downstream to the spinney beyond the third island. Parking is limited and is on the verge on the opposite side to the pumping station. Do not obstruct the pavement by parking on it.
