Petworth Park Lake is a 7 acre lake set in the grounds of the National Trust's Petworth
House estate is surrounded by parkland where the estates herds of fallow
deer can often be seen grazing.
The lake has benefited from large scale restoration work
in recent years and has since been stocked with Crucian Carp, Tench,
Roach, Rudd, Perch and Bream. The fish are now well established in their
new surroundings and packing on the weight. The Tench now average three
to four pounds with the odd larger fish reported. The Bream have done
really well and are now approaching double figures with a best of 9lb
7oz so far reported.
Some of the Crucians are over three pounds, the
Roach, Rudd and Perch go to 2lbs and the lake also contains the odd Carp
to mid double figures as well. Match weights on the water now exceed 50lb and pleasure bags to 90lb have been reported.
This varied stocking of quality fish make this Lake ideal for the
pleasure angler who appreciates the expectation of not knowing what the
next bite could produce. The pole, waggler and feeder all produce
results, with a little and often approach the preferred method of
introducing loosefeed and groundbait.
