Stake Hill Fishery is a pond with about a dozen well spaced pegs, created in 2006 and opened in Spring 2007.
The lake is situated on high ground overlooking the Aire Valley to the South, a beautiful setting but one that is at the mercy of the elements. Trees have been planted to create a shield against the prevailing wind, but it will be a few years before they are of benefit.
The initial stocking of Carp, Roach, Bream, Rudd (Golden variety) and Tench have shown good early growth rates, in April 2008 the carp were weighing 2 to 3 lbs, the skimmers 4 to 10 ounces and the plentiful Golden Rudd typically 2 to 4 ounces.
The size of fish will become more varied even if there were no further stocking since many spawned successfully in 2007.
