Wakefield Lagoon

Green Lane, Wakefield, WF4 5, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom

The Horbury Lagoon is around 5 acres in size with an average depth of 7 metres. Access is down Engine Lane, Horbury Junction and the water lies between the M1 motorway, the Railway and the River Calder. It was developed from an old gravel pit and was originally leased by the club from Whitaker's Sand and Gravel Company in the early 1950s. The lagoon and surrounding land was transferred to Horbury U.D.C. and then to Wakefield M.D.C. in later years. Over the past few years the lagoon has been stocked regularly with good quality Carp and is fished mostly by dedicated and enthusiastic Specimen Angling members. Huge Carp and Pike above 20lb. are reported regularly along with Tench to 7lb. and Bream to 10lb. No parking on the grass! Use the car park behind the boathouse.
