Dove Lake is the place to go if you want a more relaxing, tranquil day of fishing away from the rush and activity of Main Lake. It's significantly smaller than the Main Lake at two acres, but don't let that deceive you into believing it reflects the size of the fish! This specimen carp pool offers some of the greatest specimen fishing in Kent and Sussex, with both Common and Mirror carp exceeding 36lb. Tom Jenner caught a whopping 66lb Catfish in October 2020 (previously: 63lb 12oz Catfish caught by Dave Honeysett in April 2019), Daniel Dowley caught a 38lb Mirror in September 2018, and Tom Marshall caught a 34lb 8oz Common in April 2019 (a 36lb 8oz Common was stocked in May 2019 but has yet to be caught!).
Don't be deceived into believing the fish would surrender simply; to catch these elusive creatures, a covert approach is necessary. There are lots of spots to target in your search for a large specimen, with two islands and lovely reed bordered borders. There are eight swims to pick from, but only six fishermen are allowed at a time to avoid overcrowding and to offer people their own water to fish in. The depth varies from 2 feet around the islands and shelf to 8 feet in the deeper holes, which are best discovered during the cooler months. Although the bottom may be classified as silty clay with no weed, the margins can be rather lush, thus pop-ups are worth a try. If the Main Lake does not appeal to you, we are confident that the Dove Lake is well worth a visit!
