The Handle Lake is one of my favorite locations that we have. Excellent for all types of fishermen. We had carp up to the mid-thirties, pushing the 40lb mark, tench well into double digits, pushing 12lbs, bream around the 17lb mark, and pike pushing the mid-twenties. Pleasure fisherman often find themselves netting over 100 pounds of fish in a single session!
The venue is about 9 acres in size and has just one bank fishing. Two gravel bars run across the center of the lake, reaching a maximum depth of two feet at their tallest point. Over the bar and into the gully, which is around 6 to 8 feet deep, is an excellent location to fish. The far bank is an excellent location for a bait.
Carp are continually expanding in size; there is a decent head of carp weighing between 20 and 30 pounds, with some of them already approaching the 40-pound level. This is also an excellent Tench fishing location; the legendary Martin Bowler once spent a 24-hour session there, bagging 50 Tench, nine of which were over 9lbs.
The site is particularly well-known for its bream, with fish to over 17lbs and a healthy population of doubles. The carp are of amazing quality; stocked approximately a decade ago with a magnificent strain of English fullys, these fish are worthy of your picture book!
We have chosen to restrict bait boats to this location. Please exercise common judgment while operating a boat. Avoid fishing in regions where you cannot recover fish and avoid entering other people's water. We urge that any members of the venue who see this regulation being violated contact the fisheries manager.
The lake is available as a separate ticket or as part of the Gold Ticket; the lake requires a key.
