Cleabarrow Lake
A few years ago the fish stock in Cleabarrow was badly predated by otters with the loss of many large carp. Since then WADAA has carried out a major restoration project on the fishery. An otter proof fence has been erected, the weed has been brought under control, the overgrown islands cleared and numerous snags removed. Further work to replace the existing pegs and walkways is now complete and this little gem of a fishery is once again back to it's best. Cleabarrow has ...

Derwentwater
Cumbria's most northern lake supports a significant head of trout, especially brown trout. There are also plenty of shoals of roach and large pike on offer for the coarse angler. Interestingly, Bassenthwaite Lake is one of only two in Britain (the other is Derwentwater) to have the fish vendace, of the same family as salmon and trout.
Keswick, CA12 5, Cumbria, United Kingdom
Grasmere
Thirlmere is a large and very scenic lake alongside the A591 between Grasmere and Keswick. Helvellyn towers over the eastern shore while to the west conifer plantations dominate the fells. Thirlmere is a water supply reservoir providing Manchester with much of its supplies – with the result that water levels can drop dramatically over a dry summer. However at normal levels the lake is a spectacular wild fishery and for most of the year quiet and undisturbed. The water ...

Loweswater
This small lake is the final member of the trio that form the catchment of the River Cocker - and the only one of the western lakes that drains to the east. The surroundings have a softer, more pastoral feel about them and Loweswater still remains relatively untouched by tourism. Loweswater always had a reputation for large trout, many of which were taken during the once prolific mayfly hatch Sadly, it seems both the large trout and the prolific mayfly have both had thei...

Mere Tarn
Furness Fishing Association manage several fisheries at Roanhead just north of Dalton in Furness together with Ormsgill Reservoir on the western side of Barrow in Furness and Mere Tarn near Scales to the east of Dalton. Suffice to say that coarse anglers in the Furness Peninsula are well served. FFA have an active junior section and a comprehensive programme of matches and events throughout the year.
Hawthwaite Lane, Roanhead, LA14 4, Cumbria, United Kingdom
River Cocker
Crummock Water is the largest of the three linked lakes that form the catchment of the River Cocker and measures some two and half miles long and just over half a mile wide. Crummock cries out to be fished lochstyle from the boat and they are (apparently) available to hire, but only with oars. This means a lot of rowing for not much fishing, especially on the sort of breezy day when the chances of good sport are high. You are permitted to launch your own unpowered boat a...
Buttermere, CA13 9, Cumbria, United Kingdom
Rydal Water
WADAA Membership Grasmere is situated on the eastern side of the A591 Ambleside to Keswick road just before Grasmere village. This small lake is one of the regions best natural coarse fisheries holding prolific shoals of roach, quality perch and big pike. Genuine thirty pound plus pike have been caught in the past and twenty pound fish are caught every year along with good numbers of doubles. The water can fish well throughout the year with summer lure fishing from a boa...

Farletonview Fishery
Main lake is regularly stocked with top quality hard fighting rainbow & blues. Average stock size is 1 3/4 lb with many fish larger than this up to doubles. Crooklands, Milnthorpe, LA7 7NU, Cumbria, United Kingdom
Ghyll Head Reservoir
Even in an area where beautiful scenery is commonplace Ghyll Head stands out from the crowd. Hardly surprising that this is WADAA's most popular fishery. Ghyll Head nestles in a small elevated valley overlooking Windermere and is the perfect place for a day’s trout fishing. The fishery runs to eleven acres, narrow in places, with numerous bays, points and inlets – all of which add variety and interest to the fishing. Nearly all the water can be covered from the shore...

High Arnside Tarn
Small, but perfectly formed, this little one and a half acre tarn can be found some fifteen minutes off the Skelwith Bridge to Coniston Road alongside the footpath to Tarn Hows. WADAA used to stock this fishery but have now left it entirely to the stock of smallish, wild brownies - with the odd larger fish still prowling the deeper holes. The tarn is heavily weeded and impossible to fish with anything other than floating line but the fish are willing, free rising and fei...

High Newton Reservoir
High Newton is probably the best ‘top of the water’ rainbow trout fishery in Cumbria and can provide exhilarating sport to the dry fly at any time of the year. This eleven acre former reservoir occupies an elevated position with a fantastic outlook over the Coniston Fells, the Cartmel Valley and out to Morecambe Bay. This does mean early season can be a little exposed and windy but, as soon as the weather warms, that same wind brings hordes of terrestrial fly onto th...

Moss Eccles Tarn
Moss Eccles is a very picturesque five acre, man made, tarn owned by the National Trust and is recognised as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The tarn is best approached from the Tower Bank Arms at Far Sawrey, near Hawkshead. Limited parking is available in Sawrey village and under no circumstances should vehicles be taken up the lane to the tarn. This is a WADAA fishery and the association stock the tarn annually with a large number of good sized brown trout avera...

River Ellen
Once the major port on this part of the west coast Maryport has recently undergone a major facelift centered around the harbour with new waterside housing and marina developments. All very attractive and well worth a visit in its own right. The River Ellen empties through the harbour. For sea anglers this is a popular venue with plenty of options to choose from. Fishing takes place in the harbour, from the piers and from the promenade to the north - all of which are easi...

Watendlath
This is a natural seven acre tarn just a few miles south of Keswick. Your route to the fishery takes you over Ashness Bridge - the view from here adorns a million fridge magnets and suggests that during the peak holiday season solitude is unlikely. Nevertheless anglers can nearly always find a quiet corner of the water. Outside these times Watendlath offers excellent fishing in nothing less than perfect surroundings. This is the only stocked trout water of any size in th...

Yew Tree Tarn
This is one of the most photographed tarns in Lakeland and comes close to Mount Fuji in the world snapshot rankings. Hardly surprising, the setting is beautiful with a perfectly placed lay by for tackling up while you survey the water for signs of rising fish. This delightful small fishery lies alongside the A593 Ambleside to Coniston Road some three miles from Skelwith Bridge. Yew Tree Tarn is controlled by Coniston, Torver and District Angling Association who stock the...

Blencarn Lake
First impressions of this rainbow trout fishing lake simply take your breath away. Cross Fell and the North Pennines form a majestic backdrop to an attractive spring fed 15 acre lake offering excellent stillwater fly fishing for rainbow trout. Kenny Stamper, the owner, personally supervises this little corner of heaven and the rainbow trout are reared on site and optimum numbers are maintained. There is a little bothy with toilets and an area to eat and boil a kettle t...
