Frogmore Fishery is a coarse fishing venue located near St. Albans in Hertfordshire. Some construction work had been made because of the low water levels and not the fishery comprises three coarse fishing lakes containing a good head of Carp, Tench, Roach, Bream, Rudd, Chub and Perch.The match pool is very popular in the summer when visiting anglers can expect up to a dozen or more carp averaging around 5lb.
A number of the carp are now well into double figures with the largest around 19lb. When these are proving difficult the Match Pool also produces excellent sport with surprising numbers of good rudd, roach and perch plus occasional bream, chub and tench.
The match record, set in 2006 is over 64lb.
Tony's Lake, located behind the match pool, was reclaimed in the Winter of 2002 from an original gravel pit which had been neglected and overgrown for many years.
As of early 2007 there's much work still to be done. However, early test stockings with crucians, tench and silver fish have already provided members with a new option and plenty of bites. Tench to 4lb and many nice perch are now being reported in mixed bags. Note, the bottom is uneven and snaggy, there remains a small number of large carp yet to be relocated, and, in hot weather, weed can be a problem. However, as experience with the other lakes has already proved, mother nature can do her magic very quickly with a helping hand or two.
Car Park pool
This pool is now open for fishing. Stocks include some 40 carp of 6lb and over which have been transferred from the match pool (these were replaced with several hundred small 'pastie' carp) and many thousands of small rudd and roach. These small fish now make this water ideal for young anglers looking to get plenty of bites. We hope the carp will settle in well and spawn, with luck providing the VAC with new stock for years to come. Plans to introduce further stocks are well advanced and we hope this combination of good sized carp for those happy to sit and wait plus small silvers to encourage the young will prove popular with members.
