Shelf Dam

Shelf, HX3 7LP, Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Shelf Dam is in fact two dams. The first dam is an old mill dam with room for about 13 anglers. It is a deep lake for its size and the bottom of the lake angles down to a depth of about 20 feet in the middle. The dam wall and opposite platforms ends start shallow in the edges at about 3 feet, but deepen off quickly. The other two sides of the dam drops off to 10 at the edge, so care is needed. It is a quiet setting in its own private grounds. Access is through the sign posted gate on Cock Hill Lane, which is roughly about 1/2 mile North of the Shelf Roundabout. The smaller pond is hidden up the banking at the far end of the site. This has room for about 6 rods and is mostly covered with lilies with an even depth of about 5-6 feet. Both waters contain roach, perch, ide, bream, carp, tench, chub, pike and the odd eel. This is a private water with only members allowed on the banks.
