The Williams-Wynn family was a large landowner in North and Mid Wales for many centuries, and the family seat was at Wynnstay, Ruabon. The region is bordered by lovely private forests and stocked with Carp weighing up to 28 lbs, as well as Rudd and Perch, and has two mature estate lakes of 3 acres (Top Lake) and 1 acre (Bottom Lake).The Top Lake (the biggest of the two pools) is home to an abundance of specimen carp weighing up to 28 pounds. Carp Fishing in North Wales

There are some cracking locations in North Wales for carp fishing. If you are a specimen hunter looking for a new personal best carp we suggest that you look at Wynnstay Carp Fishery, the fishery record currently stands at a whopping 42lbs. Commonwood Fisheries is also worth looking into as it has a large stock of carp which reach over the 30lb mark.

If you are looking for a bend in the rod and would like to fish a runs water we suggest looking at Bron Eifion. The fishery is very heavily stocked which means it is extremely popular amongst match fisherman.

Night Fishing Lakes North Wales

A number of fisheries allow night fishing such as Glasfryn Parc and Gweryd Lakes Fishery. Night fishing is also allowed at Commonwood Fisheries however you will need to book in advance.

Is There Free Fishing in North Wales?

We could not find many locations where you can fish for free, however the Llandegla Trout Coarse Fishery offer free fishing to children which are under 12 years old. If you would like to keep the trout that you catch there is a payment of £2.80 required per fish.

Fishing Clubs in North Wales

The Rhyl and St Asaph Angling Association are one of the most renowned angling clubs in North Wales. They have a very large selection of rivers and still waters which can all be fished with a club membership. Pike, Salmon, Trout, Perch and grayling can all be found in the fisheries.

Pike Fishing in North Wales

Trawsfynydd Lake looks like a great place to go pike fishing, some of the Pike in the lake are now reaching over the magical 30lb mark. Pike can also be found at Brenig and Alwen which is actively managed by the Rhyl and St Asaph Angling Association.
